Overall I'd feel safer with more algorithmic trading; algorithms approved in advance and audited (by combination of private consortium and government).

But this is the important factor, deciding on whether or not I agree with you: Can I influence Google to re-create this "sensation" and make a killing buying dumped stocks in an otherwise sound company? Otherwise, I would have to go with the shifty meatbag — provided he turns profit.

The story is that the old article got "bumped up" for some reason by a bunch of users. Supposedly this was just due to a spurious "viral" spasm of interest, but maybe it wasn't?

The long and short of it is, you can't do it by yourself. However, if you were to influence a large group of people or (much easier) buy some time on a botnet to do a mass voting scheme...

Yup. And a lot easier that staging a terrorist attack on a newly unveiled super-jumbo jet too.
