gmail and googletalk (jabber)

Once or twice a day, on average, I can't connect to the gmail IMAP server (which thunderbird really doesn't like) and today, simultaneously, I am not getting information from googletalk's XMPP/jabber server.

What is the deal? Does this happen to anyone else?

No, but then I connect to gmail once every 2 days or so.
